Welcome to our spirited blog about the drinking life!
First off, here’s the thing: We are not here to glorify a descent into the overconsumption of alcohol. If you are seeking a sensory escape from the everyday--IN MODERATION--well then, read on and enjoy.
In our travels travel far and wide, we look for the fascinating crossroads of civilized decadence known as CRAFT COCKTAILS, made by good folks who study the gustatory pleasures of imbibing. We read copious amounts of literature on the subject, we collect bottles like some collect butterflies, and we often venture into the kitchen to play mad scientist, mixing up our own bubbling cauldrons of flavored simple syrups and spiced elixirs.
We’re not out to goad anyone’s demons; we’re here to show you how to relax, have fun and learn something new while experimenting with the multifaceted delights of the well-crafted cocktail.
We’re here to share a little of the history behind the bottle, with an occasional foray into the effect liquor has had on culture through the ages into modern times.
We’ll tell you where to go to when you want a really good drink made for you by someone who knows what they’re doing and where to find stuff for those DIY days.
And we’re sincerely hoping to incite some curiosity and exploration of your own.
Once again: IN MODERATION, consumption of alcohol is not a bad thing. We like to think of its benefits on many levels.
It’s medicinal: who hasn’t heard of a hot toddy when the cold’s got you down?
It’s therapeutic: I’ll take a good gin & tonic over a doctor-prescribed pharmaceutical any day when I need to take the edge off.
It’s social: Well, that one’s self-explanatory.
It’s culinary: When high quality ingredients are thoughtfully and creatively assembled, cocktails take on more depth and nuance than you ever got out of that Appletini.
It’s historical: Liquor has been around for a really long time; it crosses geographic boundaries and touches just about every culture known to mankind; and what was old is new again, as today’s distillers, bartenders and cocktail enthusiasts reach back across the ages for inspiration.
So, take a seat at our bar for a shot of liquored-up observations.
